Per The Real Deal, someone has fibbed about tenants moving into a retail development.
The Tampa Bay Times reporter is actually doing her job and fact checked a few things a broker had to say! In the pre-great-recession days, I remember different developers in back-to-back meetings claiming that the had the same tenants for competing developments. (Three Louis Vuitton stores in Atlanta? Really?)
So what harm does this really do? Well no tenant will believe any of the merchandising plans now, so the broker will have to go above and beyond to prove who has signed a lease. At the very least – if the project fails – he can throw the broker under the bus (as usually happens).
